| Excerpt from DIRTY LAUNDRY |

Although it now sat in the heart of Koreatown, Taylor's
Steak House was a throwback to an all-American era, one
in which the steaks were red, the people eating them were
white and their aspirations definitely blue-blooded.

Consequently, Taylor's was a favorite with corporate types
and the USC crowd, veteran politicians and more than a few
LAPD personnel. In fact, I'd just attended the retirement
party of one of RHD's most fabled detectives there a few
weeks ago. That the equally legendary Larry Thorfinsen wanted
to meet at Taylor's instead of the office or some neutral
territory made me wonder whether he was scoping out the
place for his retirement party or if he needed a safe place
where he could invoke the wrath of the old-guard, safe from
the official eyes and ears of the LAPD but on their turf
nonetheless.
