Aubrey said that every major city has one—the usually
large, usually county-run, usually woefully underfunded
hospital that catches the fallout from man's innate desire
to stab and shoot his fellow man. In L.A., it was Killer
King—aka Martin Luther King, Jr., Medical Center—nicknamed
for its poor patient survival statistics, brought on, no
doubt, by the number of gunshot wounds and assorted physical
mayhem it treated on a daily basis.
