Paula's Comments on Spooks, Spies, And Private Eyes
February 4, 1997

Thanks to all of you who've enjoyed and written to me about this landmark collection of historically significant and comtemporary mystery, crime, and suspense fiction by black authors. The popular and critical acclaim for Spooks, Spies has been very gratifying. Among the latest has been Anthony and Shamus Awards for best short story for Gar Anthony Haywood's "And Pray Nobody Sees You." Many new writers have been inspired by the interest in the genre and the stories in Spooks, Spies to write their own mystery short fiction or novels. Look for my article in the May 1997 issue of Mary Higgins Clark Magazine where I'll "clue you in" to some of the best! Your interest and support have also inspired me to "get in the groove" and write my first mystery novel, "Inner City Blues," featuring LAPD homicide detective Charlotte Justice. It's due from WW Norton in 1999. Thanks again for your interest and enthusiasm. — Paula L. Woods
